Scrappy Swap Test Run

The other day we were assigned our partners for the swap, so I have been busy stalking her and came up with the idea to make a needle book.  I also need one myself so I decided to make a prototype and here are the results of my test run.  I am loving it.  I now need to decide what fabrics to use for my partner.  She has been pretty quiet so far so I am still not too sure what she really likes in the way of fabrics and colour. I posted pictures of my  needle book test run on Flickr hoping she will see it and give me some ideas of her likes/dislikes.!

Psychedelic

So today was a fun day, I managed to finish piecing the top of  my string quilt.  So let me introduce you to……………………

PS Sorry about photo overload, they say a picture speaks a thousand words so!!!!

When my hubbie saw me taking pictures from the deck he even offered to hold up my quilt so  I could take a few pictures of it, unfortunately the light by this time 5.45 pm this evening was starting to fade so they are not the best.DSC00732DSC00737

So psychedelic just needs to be quilted, any ideas how?  I may have a go at doing this one myself, but after the last queen sized quilt I did on my machine I vowed never again.  But I think with this being smaller I may be able to manage it.  I was also thinking of backing this with either fleece or flannel, but I am not sure if this would make it more or less difficult to quilt.

Scrappy Swap - NOW CLOSED

Today I signed up for a Scrappy Swap on Flickr.  As I type this post there are still some places left so if your interested head on over and join in the fun.
This is a small low pressure swap. With only a 3 week turn around from when partner assignments go out to when mailing begins.
The swap items are:
1)  a Fat Quarters equivalent of fabric scraps
2)  a small hand made, scrap inspired gift
3)  a small (under $3 value) item that is local to where you live. E.g. a postcard, some local confectionary

So I have put together a mosaic of some of the things I like to give my swap partner an idea of what I like.  There are some very talented people around.  Not until I put this mosaic together did I realize that I have a thing for pouches at the moment and they all seem to have a certain look too.

String Quilt–Psychedelic

Sorry for my absence, I have been a little preoccupied and obsessively wanted to finish off making the blocks for my new quilt.  All 45 blocks are now completed and all I need to do  is sew it all together (which I plan on doing this weekend)

Browsing all the different blogs online I came across a beautiful String Quilt, aptly named Kaleidoscope by Film in the Fridge and also a great tutorial on how to make the blocks.

DSC00710Talk about easy peasy! this quilt is a paper/foundation  pieced quilt and could not be any easier.  I had a lot of fun using up lots of different scraps that I had left over from other things I have made.

DSC00711I asked my youngest son if he were to give this quilt a name what would he call it, and he said it was a little Psychedelic looking so that is the name of this quilt!

I am still working away like a little bee on my Union Jack Hexagon quilt and have now basted 70 hexies! only another 430+ to go! and if that wasn’t enough I also started making a new table runner and also bought a lovely little mini wall hanging pattern.  I get the feeling I am turning into one of those woman that has many WIPs.  So I guess without knowing it I just joined the club!

Hexagons–Hexagogo–Union Jack Quilt

I recently bought this book Hexagogo written by Tacha Bruecehr and it arrived from Amazon in my mail box on Monday.  If like me your into hexagons at the moment, then this is a must buy.  I cannot recommend this book enough.  If you thought hexagons were a little bit old fashioned, then check this book out, I think you will be pleasantly surprised.  There are some absolutely stunning quilt projects in this book.

Hexa-Go-Go: English Paper Piecing 16 Quilt Projects

My favourite has to be the Union Jack Quilt. So much so that I have stopped basting hexagons for my English Flower Garden Quilt and decided to concentrate on making the Union Jack quilt from the book instead.

I have made a start! But my oh my there are so many hexagons required for this project, 500+ springs to mind. It might take me a little while. I have done 50 so far.

The difficult thing is I need many different shades of red, white and blue and my stash is limited in these colours at the moment, I do have some scraps left over from my first quilt which was also red white and blue and I have been using them so far. If anyone wants to send me any scraps then please do get in touch, and you can become a part of this BIG quilt!!

And if doing this quilt isn't enough I have decided once that is complete I will be making the stars and stripes quilt too.  But you know how it is I will have other WIP going on at the same time!  Who knows how long it will take, but I am determined to get this quilt made.
